Wow.
My brain is still trying to process what it just read, but in the absolute best way possible.
If you've followed me on social media for any amount of time, you will know just how much I love J Bree (actually, that's a lie. I haven't even shown you the tip of the iceberg for how much I love and adore the worlds this woman creates!).
When I went into this book, I will be honest. I had this overwhelming dread because I don't really read a lot of paranormal romances for the simple reason that the entire book hangs off the magical abilities rather than having an actual story. Basically, if you took away the powers, etc, the story wouldn't make sense).
Don't hate me.
I'm not saying this is all PNR (I write PNR-obviously), but it is the majority of the ones I have come across which is why I am super picky about what I do read.
That being said, I love J Bree and I opted to give this series a shot. She's one of my top two favourite authors, so I knew the book would be good either way.
What I wasn't expecting was to be completely blown away to the point of being speechless.
Broken Bonds is the first book in a new series (The Bonds That Tie) and it follows Oleander (FMC) through a journey of being forced back into a life she did everything to run away from and in close contact with her Bonded (there are five).
Problem is, there are very good reasons why she ran away and denied all of them that closeness and comfort, so even though she's back, everything is strained because she won't tell them why or access her own abilities in any way.
Throughout the book, you learn more and more about Oli and just how tough and badass she really is to have lived the life she has for the past five years.
Coming back? That's a whole new battle she wasn't prepared for and being close to her Bonded isn't helping the situation.
You will fall in love with Oli as you read everything she has been through to protect the ones she loves and just how strong she really fucking is both inside and out.
This journey isn't an easy one for her, but I am excited to follow along!
Broken Bonds releases with Amazon on June 28 and you aren't going to want to pass on it!
(And if you're wondering...yes, if you took away the magical abilities and threw in some real life dark shit that people have to battle? The story would still be freaking amazing and rock your world!)
